Egypt Registered 1.8 Marriages Every Minute in 2022
Government figures revealed that 25% of new marriages ended in divorce, notably among those aged 20 to 30.
In 2022, Egypt witnessed a surge in marriage rates with 1.8 new marriages every minute - a 5.6% increase compared to 2021, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) report.
Totalling 929,400 marriages, or more than 77,000 marriages per month, the report highlights Cairo, Sharqiya, Beheira, Daqahliyah, and Minya as the prominent areas for unions.
The report also reflects a rise in divorce rates in 2022, averaging one divorce every two minutes for a total of 269,800 divorces – a 5.9% increase from 2021. Cairo, Alexandria, Giza, Sharqiya, and Qalyubiyah were identified as having the highest divorce numbers.
Government figures further revealed that 25% of new marriages ended in divorce, notably among those aged 20 to 30, attributed to issues such as partner selection, communication breakdowns and economic stress.
