Travellers Bring 600 KG of Duty-Free Gold To Egypt in Three Months
As per a national six-month decree, travellers coming to Egypt can bring up to 150 grams of gold without paying customs fees.
Travellers to Egypt have imported 600 kilograms of duty-free gold from abroad over the past three months.
On May 10th, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly issued a national six-month decree that exempts gold from certain customs duties. Egyptian residents and foreigners returning to Egypt from abroad can bring up to 150 grams of gold without paying customs fees until November 2023.
With an aim to stabilise gold prices in the country and reduce the smuggling of gold, the ruling provides an exemption from customs duties and other fees, excluding value-added taxes, for gold artefacts intended for monetary circulation, as well as ornaments and jewellery.
