Bahraini Band OFFTrack Release Buoyant Trip-Hop EP 'Onsra'
‘Onsra’, a new EP by Bahraini band OFFTrack, evokes a dusky, atmospheric tone which blends with lively dance melodies.
Bahraini band OFFTrack has just unveiled 'Onsra', a gritty EP that serves as an unapologetic rebellious trip-hop manifesto. ‘Onsra’, which is derived from the Boro language of north-eastern India, explores themes of desperate optimism, love and failure through songs that are inspired by the lived experiences of the band members. ‘Onsra’ evokes a dusky, atmospheric tone which blends with lively dance melodies.
The EP orchestrates a blend of explorative, quirky, and somewhat disjointed sounds that traverse multiple genres, forging Onsra's unique soundscape. Tracks such as 'Lamina' and 'Sound & Fork' showcase robust electronic rhythms, enriched by a grungy trance ambiance. The remainder of the EP shifts towards more melodic instrumental rhythms, whilst spotlighting Sara Al-Saeed’s captivating vocals. Each instrument within the band finds its moment to shine throughout, adding depth to the album's musical narrative.
The four band members - Sumit Sharma (musical arrangements and synths) Sara Al Sayed (vocals) Sean Aaron (guitar) and Ryan James (bass) - skillfully blend traditional Bahraini musical motifs with contemporary trip-hop aesthetics. Their debut song, ‘Too Dumb For Your Guns’, was released in 2021 as an ode to Palestinian children and a powerful anti-war anthem.
