AED 4.5 Million Grant to Expand Sharjah Library Collections
The public libraries’ grant will allow them to acquire the latest books from the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair, enhancing access to global knowledge and reinforcing the city's cultural mission.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi of Sharjah allocated AED 4.5 million to enrich the emirate’s libraries. The funds will be used to acquire the latest books showcased at the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2024), including works from Arab and international publishers. This initiative seeks to strengthen the role of libraries as pillars of knowledge, providing readers, students, and researchers with access to contemporary and cutting-edge works from various disciplines.
The Sharjah International Book Fair, which attracts over 2,500 publishers annually, is a key event for the global literary community. This year, the fair’s collection of publications will now be accessible to a wider audience in Sharjah’s public and government libraries. This strategic move not only ensures the availability of up-to-date intellectual resources but also reinforces the UAE’s position as a global hub for cultural exchange.
By focusing on enhancing library collections, the initiative also supports Sharjah's broader goals of fostering a knowledge-based society and promoting research across multiple sectors.
