Angelo Bonello's 'Run Beyond' Installed Above Major Riyadh Junction

A new public artwork by Italian artist Angelo Bonello has been installed on the pedestrian bridge at the intersection of King Abdulaziz Road and Hisham bin Abdul Malik Road in Riyadh. Titled 'Run Beyond', the light-based sculpture depicts a running figure suspended mid-leap.

Using illuminated silhouettes animated through controlled LED lighting, the work creates the impression of continuous movement and rhythm.

The piece was first presented in an earlier form during Noor Riyadh 2021. A new version, created in 2022 as Edition 1, Series 2, was later acquired for the Riyadh Art Permanent Collection and has now been integrated into the bridge above the roadway. Bonello, who was born in 1971, works across performance, installation and large-scale public art.

He co-founded the interdisciplinary platform Kitonb with Alberta Nunziante in 1998 and has conceived and directed more than 150 projects in over 300 cities worldwide.

Led by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Riyadh Art is one of the four original Vision 2030 megaprojects and among the world's largest public art programmes.

Since its launch in 2019, the initiative has added 75 works to its Permanent Collection.

Across its festivals, including Noor Riyadh and Tuwaiq Sculpture, more than 580 artworks have been presented at sites across the capital, attracting over 17.3 million visits since 2019. Additional installations have been confirmed for 2026 and beyond.
