Egyptian Actor Bassel Alzaro is on Season 61 of 'Days of Our Lives'
Playing a character named Klaus, Alzaro spent two months filming five episdoes in Los Angeles before flying home to Cairo.
Bassel Alzaro found himself inside the show he grew up watching. The Egyptian-Jordanian-Palestinian actor, who has been a fixture on Arabic television since 2013, has joined 'Days of Our Lives', the famous American daytime soap opera that first went to air in 1965 and has since piled up more than 15,000 episodes. Now in its 61st season, the show has handed Alzaro a character named Klaus.
A Hollywood detour is not entirely new for him, since he turned up in 'FBI: International' not long ago, but this time the stint runs to five episodes, shot over two months in Los Angeles. Alzaro has singled out casting director Marnie Saitta for taking a chance on him and letting him build Klaus, and thanked his agents at Sovereign Talent Group and his management at MCM for backing the move. With filming wrapped, he has flown back to Egypt, where he says a run of local projects is already waiting.
What lingers in his own telling is a note of disbelief that the soap his parents and grandparents watched is now one he has a credit on, and that even a small foothold in that history feels unreal to him. He ended his Instagram caption with a wink at Friends fans, confessing he finally understands Joey Tribbiani, the character whose own big break came from a soap. And Alzaro is adamant this is only the beginning.
