Egyptian Short Film Al-Toraa Will Compete at Cannes Film Festival
Jad Chahine’s Al Toraa’ is the only Egyptian short film participating in the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
The Egyptian short film El-Toraa’ (The Call of the Brook), directed and written by Jad Chahine, will be screened in the La Cinef section of the Cannes Film Festival. El-Toraa, a 12-minute film, is the only Egyptian short film participating in the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival (CFF), which will take place between April 16 and 27, 2023.
La Cinef is a section of the CFF dedicated to discovering new talent, founded in 1998 with a mission to inspire and support a new generation of international filmmakers. Al-Toraa’, amongst 16 other short films were selected from between 2,000 films submitted to the La Cinef section. The film stars Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Heba Khayal and Sarah Shedid and follows the story of a young boy who visits a cursed brook which changes the trajectory of his life.
