Heritage Revival Week Returns to Cairo From August 22nd

Ihyaa for Heritage and Arts will launch the second edition of Heritage Revival Week in Cairo from August 22nd to 26th, 2026, in collaboration with UNESCO.

Held under the theme ‘Layers Unseen, Stories Untold’, this year’s edition will expand the programme beyond its 2025 debut, bringing together heritage, architecture, cinema, photography and the arts through activities held across historic districts and contemporary urban settings.

The programme will include lectures, talks, workshops, tours and cultural experiences, with activities designed to explore both tangible and intangible heritage while engaging directly with Cairo’s neighbourhoods and urban fabric.

Heritage Revival Week was first held in 2025 under the theme ‘The City on Screen’, with a programme examining the relationship between image, city and memory through architecture, cinema and heritage.

The 2026 edition will also involve cultural and educational institutions, Egyptian universities, entities affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and civil society organisations. The partnerships are intended to bring researchers, creators, students and the public into closer dialogue around different approaches to heritage.

Through the annual programme, Ihyaa for Heritage and Arts aims to create a platform for engaging with heritage beyond conventional frameworks, connecting Cairo’s memory and built environment with contemporary artistic and cultural practices.
