Menna Shalaby to Star in New Netflix Series ‘Hudoo’ El Qatala’

In response to the recent nationwide hype around crime thrillers, Menna Shalaby is set to return to the crime TV scene in a new Netflix series titled ‘Hudoo’ El Qatala’, written by Mohamed Hisham Ebia. Directed by Karim El-Shenawy, the director of TV hits ‘El Harsha El Sab’a’ and ‘Khaly Balak Men Zizi’, the series will span eight suspenseful episodes set in Cairo.

Based on the 2006 novel by Tarek Emam, the series is set to be a telling portrait of the capital, where ghosts like Layl, an old shoe shiner and retired killer, Jaber, a phantom with a prosthetic leg, and Salma, who is killed twice, are immersed in a light above reality. In his novel, Emam captures this bizarre world in its violence and mysticism. The narrator, Salem, is a poetic murderer who writes a new poem with each victim, and believes himself some sort of prophet after he discovers an ancient manuscript by an unknown ancient ascetic.
