Red Sea International Film Festival to Honour Mona Zaki & Viola Davis
The two actresses’ commemoration is part of the festival’s commitment to supporting female filmmakers.
The 4th edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival will honour celebrated Egyptian actress Mona Zaki - star of ‘Flight 404’, Egypt’s entry for Best Foreign Film at this year’s Academy Awards - alongside academy award winning American actress and producer Viola Davis.
"Mona Zaki is an icon of Egyptian cinema,” Festival Managing Director Shivani Pandya Malhotra tells SceneNowSaudi. “It is the perfect time to honour her, as Egyptian cinema is going through a moment, and Mona represents the country’s filmmaking community bringing a new generation of Egyptian filmmakers together with the more established ones."
Viola Davis - a prominent producer who won several awards in film and theatre, including the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for ‘Fences’ (2016) - will participate in the Festival's Film Souq (Marketplace) to explore potential collaborations and partnerships in the Middle East. Additionally, she will engage in an exclusive conversation with festival attendees about her career and ongoing projects.
