Safena 7 Opens Free Photobook Library in Downtown Cairo This July

There are libraries for novels, libraries for manuscripts, and now a library devoted entirely to the photobook in Downtown Cairo. Safena 7, an independent space dedicated to photography and visual culture, has announced that its specialised photobook library will open to the public throughout July, placing more than 60 photographic titles from the Arab region and beyond within reach of anyone who wants to spend time with them.

The opening comes alongside a monthly programme centred on a different photobook, with each selected title serving as the focus of reading sessions and discussions. The programme also includes activities that connect books with ideas, creating space for reflection on photography and visual storytelling. Visitors can drop in every Sunday from 6 PM to 10 PM and every Wednesday from 11 AM to 4 PM throughout the month.

Beyond its library, Safena 7 hosts programmes and events that encourage reading, discussion and engagement with photography as a cultural and artistic practice. Through publishing, exhibitions and writing, the space also aims to foster interdisciplinary conversations around the photographic image and visual culture.
