‘Spring Came on Laughing’ Wins Four Awards at Cairo Int’l Festival
'Spring Came on Laughing' weaves together four fragmented stories of women navigating Cairo's harsh spring season.
Egyptian feature film Spring Came on Laughing, Noha Adel's directorial debut, took home four awards at the Cairo International Film Festival. The film received the FIPRESCI Award, a special mention from the Horizons of Arab Cinema Jury for actress Rehab Anan, the Salah Abu Seif Award for Best Director and the Henry Barakat Award for Best Artistic Contribution.
Spring Came on Laughing weaves together four fragmented stories of women navigating Cairo's spring season, set against a backdrop of blooming joy and harsh sandstorms, reflecting the mood swings of the season. The film explores themes of joy, grief, and tense familial and friendship dynamics. Inspired by Salah Jahine’s poetry collection, it is produced by acclaimed producer and filmmaker Kawthar Younis and features an ensemble cast of non-professional actors.
