'The Shanabs' Hits Egyptian Theatres Starting October 31st
Starring Egyptian actresses Lebleba, Laila Eloui, Sawsan Badr and Heidy Karam, the story follows the Shanab sisters who reunite after the passing of their father.
After premiering at El Gouna Film Festival in 2023, ‘The Shanabs’ - the star-studded comedy by award-winning director Ayten Amin - will soon hit Egyptian theatres starting October 31st.
Starring Egyptian actresses Lebleba, Laila Eloui, Sawsan Badr and Heidy Karam, the story follows the Shanab sisters who reunite after the passing of their father. While they seek to reconcile their differences after a long time spent apart, shenanigans ensue, capturing the experiences of middle-class Egyptian life. The film was nominated for the Golden Star in the Feature Narrative Competition at El Gouna Film Festival.
Director Ayten Amin is widely recognized for her ability to tackle themes of womanhood and socially driven narratives in her works. Her film 'Souad' (2020) was selected for the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival, and she also co-directed the highly successful Egyptian series 'Sabe’a Gar' (2017).
