This Studio Ghibli Classic is Now Showing in Downtown’s Zawya Cinemas
Back on the big screen after a 17 year hiatus, Oscar-nominated ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ showcases the destructive impact of war.
Are you the kind of Studio Ghibli fan who still hugs their giant Totoro plushie when nobody's looking? Then this one’s for you. Oscar-nominated animated fantasy classic, ‘Howl's Moving Castle,’ is back on the big screen at Downtown Cairo following its global 2004 theatrical release, in none other than Zawya Cinemas.
Directed by iconic Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, the 2004 film is adapted from British author Diana Wynne Jones' novel by the same name. The film tells the story of Sophie, who is transformed into an old woman by a witch's curse, who then finds herself wandering through a magical kingdom blending fantasy and early 20th-century technology. Tackling anti-war themes and showcasing the destructive impact of violence, Miyazaki’s adaptation was inspired by his opposition to the US invasion of Iraq.
‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ will be screened in original Japanese audio with Arabic and English subtitles. Showtimes can be found on Zawya's website.
