El Gouna Film Festival has announced the selection of two Egyptian films in its official competition: ‘Al Fostan Al Abyad’, directed by Gilan Ouf and starring Yasmin Raeis, and ‘The Brink of Dreams’, a documentary film directed by Nada Riyadh and Ayman El Amir.
‘Al Fostan Al Abyad’, known as 'The Inevitable Journey to Find a Wedding Dress' in English, tells the story of a working class woman whose wedding dress is destroyed on the day of her wedding. She subsequently embarks on a trip to Cairo with her cousin to find a new wedding dress.
‘The Brink of Dreams’ is a documentary film which follows a group of Coptic women in Upper Egypt as they attempt to fulfill their ambitions of becoming singers, actresses and dancers by creating a performing troupe. The film has already received the L'Œil d'or Award for Best Documentary Film at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, making it the first Egyptian film to win this award at the festival.
The 7th edition of El Gouna Film Festival is set to take place from October 24th to November 1st.
