Egypt & Italy to Establish AI Hub to Advance Innovation in Africa
The centre will be built in Cairo to provide training and support to African nations.
The Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and the Italian Minister of Enterprises Adolfo Urso agreed to establish a centre for artificial intelligence (AI) in Cairo, aiming to advance AI development and application across Africa. The centre will provide training and support to African nations, and promote collaboration between research institutions and businesses in Egypt and Italy.
During the meeting between the Egyptian and Italian ministers at the New Administrative Capital, discussions also covered digital capabilities, data governance efforts, and potential collaboration opportunities in international digital infrastructure. Egypt's readiness to host the centre was emphasised, with hopes to strengthen Egyptian-Italian relations in communication and information technology. Urso highlighted Egypt's strategic location and expressed commitment to establishing the centre, positioning Egypt as an international AI hub serving all African nations.
