Hamilton Labs Secures Investment to Expand USD Stablecoin in Africa

Hamilton Labs has secured an undisclosed investment from AXIAN Investment, the venture capital arm of AXIAN Group, to expand deployment of its dollar-pegged stablecoin, USDh, across African markets.

The investment, announced on March 25th, 2026, is aimed at supporting integrations with fintech platforms and financial institutions to provide access to dollar-denominated savings tools for consumers and businesses.

USDh is designed as a permissionless stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar and fully redeemable, offering users a way to hold value in a more stable currency amid limited access to reliable savings instruments in parts of Africa.

The platform also connects users to sovereign yield opportunities, tapping into a global sovereign debt market valued at more than USD 100 trillion, typically accessible only to institutional investors.

“For millions of people in Africa, access to stable dollars and reliable savings tools remains limited,” said Mo Kasstawi, co-founder and CEO of Hamilton Labs. “We believe programmable dollars like USDh can expand access to global financial infrastructure and help people protect and grow their savings regardless of where they live.”

The company plans to scale USDh through use cases including savings, payments and cross-border settlement, with a focus on embedding the asset within existing financial platforms.

Hassane Muhieddine, CEO of AXIAN’s Financial Services cluster, said the investment reflects a broader focus on digital asset infrastructure as a tool to support financial inclusion across the continent.

AXIAN Investment has previously backed 33 startups and participated in 38 investment funds, positioning the latest deal as part of a wider fintech investment strategy in Africa.
