Kuwait's Baims Education Platform Acquires Egyptian Edtech Orcas
Baims and Orcas Tutoring offer a holistic platform that addresses evolving hybrid learning models across the MENA region.
Kuwait-based education technology company Baims has acquired Egyptian firm Orcas Tutoring to tackle the MENA region's burgeoning $100 billion education market. The 100% acquisition is valued at over $11 million, and was supported by investors like Access Bridge Ventures and Algebra Ventures, enabling Baims and Orcas Tutoring to offer a holistic and adaptive platform for K12 and university learning that addresses the evolving landscape of hybrid learning models in the MENA region.
"By acquiring Orcas Tutoring, we are not just expanding our reach; we are redefining the edtech landscape in MENA," Yousef AlHusaini, CEO of Baims, tells StartupScene. "This consolidation enables us to offer a comprehensive learning experience, combining our online tailored recorded courses with Orcas Tutoring's personalised one-to-one tutoring platform."
Founded by Yousef AlHusaini and Bader AlRasheed, Baims specialises in providing online tailored recorded courses for university students in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. The acquisition of Orcas, which was founded by Hossam Taher and Amira El Gharib in 2019, enhances their offerings by integrating personalised tutoring services into their platform.
"We are thrilled by the immense potential within the Education sector in our region, evident in our initial investment in Orcas,” Issa Aghabi, Managing Partner at Access Bridge Ventures, says. “As the regional landscape evolves, the strategic consolidation among visionary startups, guided by strong leaders, is poised to fortify the foundation for regional excellence and a more robust EdTech ecosystem.
With a focus on the growing Saudi Arabian market, Baims plans to solidify its presence in Riyadh, recognized as the future startup hub of the region. Leveraging its dominant market share in Saudi Arabia, Baims intends to launch an AI-driven test preparation product, expand its one-to-one tutoring services, and reach more universities, aligning with the specific needs of students in the region.
