10 New National Universities to Open in Egypt in September 2025

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Ayman Ashour announced that 10 new national universities will begin operations in September 2025. This expansion will raise the total number of universities in the country to 116, an increase from 49 universities in 2014.

The announcement was made during the National Sustainable Innovation Policy Conference, where Dr. Ashour highlighted that Egyptian universities currently contribute 70% of the nation’s research output. The conference also marked the launch of the call for the presidential ‘Alliance and Development’ initiative. With a budget of EGP 1 billion, the initiative aims to maximise the role of innovation and research outcomes.
