100 Locally-Made Electric Buses to Operate on Ring Road
With EGP 680 million in investments, the BRT system will provide 25 million Egyptian citizens with eco-friendly transportation.
One hundred locally manufactured electric buses will soon hit Greater Cairo’s Ring Road as part of its new eco-friendly Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
With an investment of EGP 680 million, the BRT system will provide 25 million Egyptian citizens with eco-friendly transportation through 47 stations encompassing the 110-kilometre Ring Road in Greater Cairo. The project will soon expand through its second phase.
The production of electric buses in Egypt is part of a national vision to localise the transportation sector and save hard currency, while creating job opportunities and paving the way for similar initiatives across North Africa.
