40 Dubai Areas to Receive Enhanced Street Lighting by 2026
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has already installed over 1,000 eco-friendly LED lights in Umm Suqeim 1, Abu Hail and Al Baraha.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that by the end of 2026, streets in 40 areas across the city will be better lit, as part of its 2024-2026 Street Lighting Plan. As of now, over 1,000 eco-friendly LED street lights have already been installed in the first three areas - Umm Suqeim 1, Abu Hail and Al Baraha.
The lighting upgrade initiative is designed to improve safety, enhance the urban landscape and promote sustainability. It involves the installation of 959 poles, 1,010 energy-efficient LED lighting units, and the laying of 47,140 meters of underground cables in these initial areas.
"RTA has prioritised the use of the latest smart and innovative technologies that are compatible with the UAE’s climatic conditions to enhance traffic safety and security for road users, including both vehicles and pedestrians," said Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency.
Work on the lighting project is already underway in other parts of Dubai, Mirdif, Umm Suqeim 2 and 3, Al Manara, Al Murial Reserve Street, the street leading to Al Minhad Air Base, and various streets and parking areas in Oud Metha. By 2026, the lighting initiative will extend to neighborhoods like Al Jafiliya, Al Warsan, Hatta, and Al Garhoud.
