A National Database of Blood Donors Has Been Created
Donors undergo a medical examination and complete a questionnaire to ensure their suitability for donation.
The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the successful completion of the mechanisation of blood banks and the implementation of a new national database for blood donors. Rigorous tests have been conducted on collected blood bags to ensure compliance with national standards and the safety of the blood supply within 15 days of donation. Donors receive certified reports of blood test results for hepatitis B-C viruses, AIDS and syphilis.
Dr. Nehad Mohamed Massad, Director General of National Blood Transfusion Services, revealed that the nationwide automation of blood banks is connected through the Egyptian-Swiss project for an automated blood management system while the donor database is linked to the Hepatitis Virus Committee system, enabling the registration and confidential treatment referral of positive donors for hepatitis B, C and HIV.
The Ministry of Health and Population has organised blood donation campaigns in sports clubs, universities, mosques, and churches in collaboration with relevant authorities. Donors undergo a medical examination and complete a questionnaire to ensure their suitability for donation. Additionally, follow-up services and advice are provided to donors after donation to safeguard their health.
