Al Mokattam Plateau Square to Be Renamed After Dr. Abla Al-Kahlawy

Al-Mokattam Plateau Square will be renamed after the late Egyptian Islamic scholar Dr. Abla Al-Kahlawy. The decision is part of the Executive Council of Cairo Governorate’s initiative to rename some of the capital’s schools, streets, and squares after some of the nation’s martyrs and prominent figures to honour the services they provided for the country.

Dr. Abla Al-Kahlawy was one of Egypt’s most influential Islamic scholars, playing a pivotal role in religious preaching through her hit Ramadan series ‘In Love with Al Mustafah’. In 1979, Dr. Abla was nominated as the head of the department of Islamic law at the University of Umm Al Qura in Makkah. She also founded a charity to support orphans, patients and elderly people called Albaqiat Al Salihat. Additionally, she also used to teach at Al Azhar University in Cairo and was the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies at the Women’s College.

As part of the initiative, a bridge extending along the Ibrahim Al-Rifai axis in Old Cairo was renamed after the late Major General Muhammad Amin Nasr, former presidential advisor for financial affairs and treasurer of Tahya Misr Fund.
