Dar El Salam Hospital Will Become Gustave Roussy International Egypt
The French institute of oncology is ranked as the best in Europe, and sits in the top five cancer treatment institutes globally.
The Egyptian Cabinet has approved plans to turn the existing Dar El Salam Cancer Centre into the first international branch of France’s Gustave Roussy Institute of Oncology, as part of the government’s plan to improve medical services across the country. Ranked as the best institute of oncology in Europe, Gustave Roussy has also been ranked amongst the top five global cancer treatment institutes in the world.
The renovation of the Cairo hospital, which will be renamed Gustave Roussy International Egypt, will transform it into a world-class institution capable of providing the best levels of care and treatment. It is hoped that it will also reduce the number of patients who must travel abroad for treatment.
The original Dar El Salam Hospital was established in the early 20th century, making it one of the oldest in Egypt. In 2017, it was converted into a cancer-specialised hospital, and since 2019 has been a major hub for providing breast examinations; 18,000 were performed that year alone.
