Deadline Set for Refugees in Egypt to Obtain Registration Cards
The Ministry of Interior mandates that refugees obtain registration cards exempting them from residency requirements.
The Ministry of Interior has announced a new decree concerning refugees in Egypt. Refugees exempt from residence permits must acquire exemption cards from the General Administration of Passports, Immigration, and Nationality and its branches in all governorates before June 30th, 2024. Otherwise, services offered to them by state institutions will be terminated on July 1st, 2024.
As part of the Egyptian government's plan to regulate the status of foreigners in Egypt, estimated at over 9 million, the Ministry of Interior mandates that refugees obtain registration cards exempting them from residency requirements. These cards are necessary for accessing state services, aligning with the ministry's guidelines for auditing refugees' status.
The General Administration of Passports, Immigration, and Nationality has urged all foreigners applying for tourism or non-tourism residency permits to provide a receipt indicating the transfer of the equivalent amount of residency fees, fines for late renewal, or the cost of issuing a residency card. This transfer should be made in US dollars or equivalent currencies from one of the approved banks or exchange companies.
