Egypt Calls For Full Recognition of Palestine in UN General Assembly
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made direct statements in the United Nations Security Council, condemning violence against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
In an address to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry called for the full recognition and membership of a Palestinian state in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Since 2012, Palestine has been an observer member of the assembly, which excludes it from voting on resolutions and holding positions on committees. Shoukry also condemned the Israeli claim of “self-defense” by designating the Israel Defense Forces’ actions as clear violations of international and humanitarian law.
