Egypt To Build 20 New Cities to Accommodate Overpopulation
In an effort to address Egypt’s overpopulation problem head-on, the country will be establishing 20 new cities in the coming years.
102 million people in #Egypt and nearly 20 million of them are crammed into #Cairo. Yet take a little drive out of the city and one can spend hours careening down desert landscapes without a soul in sight.
We’ve needed a little enforced social distancing long before Miss Rona arrived, and finally it looks like some major measures are coming into effect to encourage us all to just give each other a little space - namely the establishment of 20 brand new cities which are slated to be as shiny as the long-buzzed-about New Administrative Capital.
The new cities - which should accommodate over 30 million people, creating millions of jobs in the process - are planned in Cairo, Giza, Dakahlia, Beheira, Port Said, Matrouh, North Sinai, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Qena, Luxor and Aswan.
