Egypt is set to receive a significant USD 1.2 billion disbursement from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) this month, as part of the country’s ongoing agreement under the USD 8 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF). This payment follows a staff-level agreement between Egypt and the IMF on the fourth review of the 46-month arrangement, which was reached in December.
Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk confirmed in an interview that the IMF’s executive board will convene in January, with the USD 1.2 billion disbursement expected to be made soon thereafter. Kouchouk also emphasized that Egypt has not requested any increase in the originally agreed-upon loan amount of USD 8 billion.
