The United Nations has formed its first-ever all-women peacekeeping unit in Mali, and it’s run entirely by Egyptian women. The peacekeeping unit is specialised in combating terrorist attacks in Mali, neutralising explosive devices and monitoring the safety of civilian roads.
The team is led by Egypt’s Major Rana Ghorab, and was established by the Egyptian UN Police Unit. The unit works alongside the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
