Fresh Fruit Exports Surge to USD 1.2B in First Five Months of 2024

The latest data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reveals a notable increase in the value of Egypt's fresh fruit exports. For the first five months of 2024, exports reached USD 1.268 billion, marking a significant rise of USD 161.3 million from the USD 1.106 billion reported in the same period of 2023.

The most pronounced growth occurred in May 2024, with fresh fruit exports totaling USD 312.7 million, up from USD 266.4 million in May 2023. This surge is part of a broader trend of increasing exports across various key commodities. Other noteworthy increases include a 5.5% rise in ready-made clothing exports, a substantial 32.2% jump in pastries and food preparations, and a modest 1.3% rise in carpet exports.

In contrast, Egypt's imports declined in May 2024, falling to USD 7.38 billion from USD 7.77 billion in May 2023, which represents a 5.1% decrease. Specifically, imports of primary-form plastics amounted to USD 304 million in May, down from USD 313 million in May 2023, reflecting a 2.9% decrease.
