Giza Zoo to Reopen in September 2025 With New Tunnel to Orman Garden

Giza Zoo is set to reopen to the public in September 2025 following a comprehensive redevelopment plan that links it with the adjacent Orman Botanical Garden.

The project includes redesigning animal enclosures, upgrading visitor walkways, and restoring eight historic landmarks within the zoo, such as the Eiffel Bridge, Japanese Hall, Royal Hall, and the tea island with its stone grotto. A new underground tunnel will connect the two parks, offering visitors a seamless experience that blends wildlife and botanical exploration.

The redevelopment is being carried out in partnership with international consultants and experts to ensure modern standards in animal care and botanical maintenance, while preserving the site’s architectural and historical character. Spanning 112 acres, Giza Zoo is the largest zoological garden located within a city and is home to over 186 species of animals, reptiles, and birds, as well as more than 3,000 historically significant trees and rare plants. Established in the 19th century under Khedive Ismail, it is recognised as the third oldest zoo in the world.
