The Ministry of Transport is preparing to sign an agreement with German manufacturer Siemens for the supply, execution and maintenance of the upcoming phases of Egypt’s high-speed electric train line. The ministry has announced that the train line’s second phase will run through Fayoum, Aswan and Abu Simbel, and then go towards Toshka and East Owainat in the Western Desert.
The first phase of Egypt’s ambitious electric train project includes a line from Ain Sokhna to Matrouh, which will intersect with a second line from 6th of October to Aswan.
In addition to this electric train line, Toshka will soon establish a logistics centre and a dry port that will be able to receive the area’s freight trains.
