Largest Wind Farm in Middle East Will Be Built in Egypt's Suez Gulf

The largest wind farm in the Middle East, valued at USD 1.5 billion, is about to be built in Egypt's Gulf of Suez and Gebel El Zeit areas. A consortium led by Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power has signed an agreement with the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority to enact a 25-year land usufruct agreement for the 1.1GW wind power project.

The project will utilise state-of-the-art wind turbine technology with turbine tip height of about 220 metres, and will be able to power about 1.08 million households and offset 2.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. The project is expected to create around 6,000 jobs, and will conserve an estimated 840,000 tonnes of fuel yearly.
