Ministry of Transport Halts Imports of Buses & Minibuses
Following the decision, the Ministry of Transport is prioritising local production of these vehicles.
In an effort to boost local production of vehicles and decrease dependence on foreign currency, the Ministry of Transport has imposed a halt on the importation of buses and minibuses. The demand will be shifted towards local production of buses and minibuses, in a joint effort between government-owned and private-sector vehicle manufacturing companies.
The collaboration with private-sector vehicle manufacturers aims to ensure that these locally produced buses meet the benchmark of global production, and undergo continuous development.
The decision follows in the line of multiple previous governmental decisions, gearing production inward and fostering less reliance on imports.
