Record 7.5 Million Tons of Produce Exported From Egypt in 2023
The export of agricultural produce generated revenues of USD 8.8 billion last year.
In a historic achievement, a record-breaking 7.5 million tons of agricultural products were exported from Egypt in 2023, generating revenues of USD 8.8 billion, according to Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al Sayed Al Qusair.
During a cabinet meeting, Al Qusair highlighted that Egypt secured the top global position in the export of oranges and frozen strawberries. The value of fresh agricultural goods reached USD 3.7 billion, while processed foods accounted for USD 5.1 billion of the total revenue.
The minister detailed that Egypt successfully exported 400 different agricultural products to 160 countries, marking a significant expansion in its export markets. Over the past decade, Egyptian agricultural exports have entered 93 new markets, underscoring the country’s growing influence in the global agricultural sector.
In the first quarter of 2024 alone, Egypt exported 1,199,916 tons of citrus. In April Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli met with South Korea's Hansan Global, along with representatives from 15 major Korean companies, who expressed interest in importing Egyptian oranges.
In 2023, the European Union imported over 500,000 tons of Egyptian oranges. Additionally, between October 2022 and February 2023, Egypt was the leading exporter of oranges to Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Cambodia.
