The Naguib Mahfouz project will bring the writings of Mahfouz to life
This cultural project will bring Mahfouz’s writings to life through various cultural arts and performance mediums.
In an attempt to revive the historical arts of Cairo, a new national project will celebrate the legacy of Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz, and highlight the classic Cairo neighbourhoods that inspired his many literary works.
The ‘Naguib Mahfouz Neighbourhood’ will feature theatrical readings of Mahfouz’s works, and highlight the traditions and folk tales that influenced his writing. Through a touring theatre, various characters and stories will be brought to life through engaging performances across various neighbourhoods in Cairo. Finally, notable elements from the works of the Egyptian writer will be showcased at a special arts exhibition.
