This New Coffee Shop is Where You Shouldn't ‘Work From Home’
The new high-end specialty coffee shop embraces an ethos of “proactive laziness” - the kind that nurtures renewed ambition.
A love for high-brow design, architecture, coffee—and an appreciation for "proactive laziness." These are the tenets behind Lazy Lads, Cairo’s latest high-end specialty coffee shop, making waves with its sumptuous signature drinks, indulgent bites, and refreshingly laid-back philosophy of what cafes should be. Forget hubs for laptop-toting, keyboard-bashing remote workers; Lazy Lads is designed for those formative moments of much-needed relaxation.
“Lazy Lads isn’t just about coffee—it’s a full experience of being lazy and embracing that!” Yara Safwat, co-founder of Lazy Lads, tells SceneEats. “We want to bring a unique, laidback vibe that aligns with the ‘lazy’ ethos: embracing the joy of slowing down and taking it easy.”
From the broad strokes of its interior design to the finer architectural details, every element of Lazy Lads reflects its philosophy of “productive, proactive laziness,” a concept brought to life by Safwat’s fellow co-founder, Sohaila Zoheiry.
“We believe that laziness fuels ambition,” Zoheiry shares. “The space is designed for those who want a moment of relaxation in the midst of a busy day, providing a cozy, inviting atmosphere where people can unwind.”
Once you’ve soaked in the chill-inducing surroundings, the only question left is which beverage to choose to suit the mood. While cafe classics like lattes, cappuccinos, and americanos are always available, it’s the signature drinks, served in Lazy Lads’ reusable glass jars, that steal the show.
“Our Strawberry Matcha blends earthy matcha with a foamy strawberry whip—perfect for those craving something vibrant and different,” Safwat explains. “Or there’s the Lazy Lavender Matcha for a soothing, floral take on a classic.”
For a bite to accompany your drink, the menu delivers in spades. Perhaps a Spicy Tunacado Ciabatta to complement your order? Or something comforting yet timeless, like turkey and cheese on sourdough or chicken layered in a crusty ciabatta. All of this awaits at District 5, a location Zoheiry proudly calls “a space where the idea of ‘laziness’ isn’t seen negatively but rather celebrated as a lifestyle of efficiency and clever shortcuts.”
“We envision Lazy Lads as more than just a coffee shop,” Safwat reveals. “We see it becoming a lifestyle brand that embodies a smart, laidback approach to life. We’re excited to introduce more Lazy Lads spots in key areas, including seasonal pop-ups in Sahel.”
