Asser Yassin To Receive Faten Hamama Award At Cairo Film Fest
The Cairo International Film Festival said the honour recognises his contributions to Egyptian cinema, with best actor wins at Carthage in 2010 and Tetouan in 2015.
Egyptian actor Asser Yassin will receive the Faten Hamama Excellence Award at the 47th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), running from November 11th to 20th, 2026. The award recognises his contributions to Egyptian cinema and a body of work marked by emotional depth, versatility, and an interest in the psychological complexities of his characters. This year’s edition also marks 50 years since the festival’s inaugural edition in 1976.
Yassin’s filmography spans independent cinema, psychological drama, and thrillers, with credits including Zay El Naharda (On a Day Like Today), directed by Amr Salama; The Promise, directed by Mohamed Yassin; Messages from the Sea, directed by Daoud Abdel Sayed; Rags and Tatters, directed by Ahmad Abdalla; The Walls of the Moon, directed by Tarek El Erian; and Diamond Dust, directed by Marwan Hamed.
His role as Yehia, a doctor who returns to Alexandria in Messages from the Sea, marked a turning point in his film career. The character’s return sets off a personal journey of self-discovery, forcing him to reassess his relationship with the city and its people. Yassin won the Best Actor Award at the Carthage Film Festival in 2010 for the performance, followed by another Best Actor win at the Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival in 2015 for The Walls of the Moon.
On television, Yassin has moved between psychological thrillers, comedy, and social drama, with credits including 30 Days, B 100 Wesh, and the Arabic adaptation of Suits.
