Cinema 3ala El Mashi Turns Downtown Cairo Into an Open-Air Cinema
MedFest Egypt and Al Ismaelia are turning Downtown Cairo into a moving cinema, with four international shorts projected onto city walls along a secret walking route.
Downtown Cairo is becoming a cinema, and this time, the audience won’t know where the next screening will be.
As part of the eighth edition of MedFest Egypt, the festival has partnered with Al Ismaelia for Real Estate Investment to launch ‘Cinema 3ala El Mashi’ (Cinema on the Walk), a mobile film experience taking audiences on a guided journey through the historic streets of Downtown Cairo.
Attendees will move through the neighbourhood as its walls become unexpected screens, with four international short films from Egypt, France, Argentina and Italy projected along the route.
For now, MedFest is keeping the route secret. Attendees will only discover where the evening takes them once they set off, making the journey between screenings part of the experience itself.
Tickets must be purchased in advance, with none available at the door. Organisers recommend wearing comfortable shoes and arriving ready to walk; after all, this is cinema on the move.
The experience takes place on September 11th at 7:30 PM.
