This Villa on Egypt's North Coast Thrives on Bold Colour & Play
On Egypt’s North Coast, Villa Victoria by Nomo Design Co. redefines seaside living with bold colours, graphic accents, and playful detailing, crafting a retreat that is joyfully unexpected.

On Egypt’s North Coast, Nomo Design Co. has completed Villa Victoria, a summer retreat that redefines seaside living through colour, contrast, and playful detailing. Where many coastal homes lean into neutral palettes, this residence embraces vivid hues, bold stripes, and unexpected accents to create a lively yet effortless atmosphere.
“The inspiration came from the essence of a summer house as a place that feels like an escape,” Nourhan Hazem, the founder of Nomo Design Co., tells SceneHome. “I wanted it to be light and airy, but also a little out of the box. Instead of keeping things safe or predictable, I leaned into colour and bold gestures that instantly shift you into a holiday mood.”
The house’s identity unfolds through its palette. Green-painted woodwork echoes the surrounding landscape, forging continuity between interior and exterior. This natural grounding is animated with orange accents, infusing the rooms with warmth and energy. Striped black-and-white details weave throughout the interiors, acting as graphic markers that guide movement and punctuate spaces with rhythm. Marble inserts and neo-cement floors balance the composition, introducing moments of refinement and grounding the playful gestures in a modern framework.
Villa Victoria’s character extends beyond surface treatment into the way it is lived. Open circulation and glazed connections dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, while layouts accommodate both gatherings and quieter moments. “Functionality always comes first, if a space doesn’t work, design alone can’t save it,” Nourhan reflects. Once the framework was resolved, the bold colours and playful details were layered in, lending personality without compromising comfort. Collaboration with Refine Co. ensured precision in execution, with technical solutions that allowed the design intent to fully materialise.
Light and landscape animate the project at every turn. Large openings flood the house with shifting daylight, while greenery frames interior views. Arched thresholds painted in fresh green are meant to reference local vernacular while grounding the home within its coastal context. “It was important to respect the setting, but also reinterpret it in a contemporary way,” Nourhan notes. “The arches, the palette, the gestures, they all nod to place while keeping the house surprising and full of character.”
Playful details bring the most personal dimension. The bold staircase, graphic architraves, and vibrant thresholds all bear the imprint of the designer’s hand. “These elements are where my personality comes through the most,” she explains. “They’re joyful, graphic, and a little unexpected.”
Villa Victoria may be a seasonal retreat, but it embodies a manifesto for joyful living: light-hearted, energetic, and unapologetically bold. “Ideally, people would walk away smiling,” Nourhan says. “Like the house itself has its own vibrant personality that’s meant to be enjoyed.”
