100 New Eye Test Centres Approved for Dubai Drivers
More than 854,000 eye tests were completed in H1 2026 as digital processing continues to speed up licence renewals.
100 approved eye test centres for driving licence applications and renewals have been added in Dubai during H1 2026, bringing the total number of authorised testing locations across the emirate to 434.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), vision tests now take an average of five to 10 minutes, with results transmitted electronically to the authority's systems. The digital process eliminates the need for manual document submission, allowing motorists to renew their licences online once all requirements have been met and add digital licences to their smartphone wallets. Printed licences remain available on request.
Demand for the service continued to grow during the first half of the year, with 854,213 eye test transactions recorded in H1 2026. In 2025, a total of 940,728 eye test results were completed and submitted electronically to the RTA. Integration between approved optical centres, eye clinics and the authority's digital services enables customers to complete both their vision test and licence renewal in a single visit.
Eye tests remain a mandatory requirement for issuing and renewing driving licences in Dubai. Approved testing facilities include optical centres, eye clinics, driving institutes and customer happiness centres across the emirate. Earlier this year, the RTA also updated its driver training curriculum for light vehicle licence applicants to include instruction on advanced driver assistance and vehicle safety technologies, including blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning systems, parking assist, night vision, anti-lock braking systems and adaptive cruise control.
