2.9 Million Visited the Giza Pyramids in First Nine Months of 2026
Visitor numbers are expected to exceed 4 million by year-end as demand strengthens into the final quarter.
The Giza Pyramids archaeological area recorded 2.9 million visitors during the first nine months of 2026, with total attendance expected to exceed 4 million by the end of the year.
Demand is strengthening into the fourth quarter following a comparatively quieter July-to-September period, with more foreign visitors expected to combine the pyramids with the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Tourism companies are marketing the area through standalone Cairo itineraries, combined Cairo-Luxor-Aswan programmes and packages linked to Red Sea and Sharm El-Sheikh resorts. Day trips to the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum from Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada have also increased compared with 2025. Hotel occupancy around the site is expected to reach around 75% to 80% from mid-October before rising to between 90% and 100% towards the end of December.
The pyramids area received 3.5 million visitors in 2025, while Egypt as a whole welcomed 12.7 million tourists between January and August 2026, up from 12.2 million in the same period a year earlier. Tourism revenues rose to $12 billion from $11.8 billion over the same eight-month period, according to Cabinet figures, while Egypt is targeting more than 20 million tourist arrivals for the full year after receiving nearly 19 million in 2025.
