2027 Dakar Rally to Move From Saudi Arabia

The 2027 Dakar Rally will be relocated from Saudi Arabia following recent developments in the region, with organisers confirming that a new host will be announced in the coming days.

“Dakar 2027 will go ahead. The 2027 edition will take place in a different territory,” organisers said. The rally will continue to be run by Amaury Sport Organisation in partnership with Saudi Motorsport Company.

No new host, route or start and finish points have yet been announced. Organisers said further details will be released once the replacement location is confirmed.

First held in 1978 as the Paris-Dakar Rally, the event originally ran between France and Senegal before security concerns along routes in North Africa prompted a move to South America in 2009. Saudi Arabia has hosted the rally since 2020, with stages crossing desert, mountain and other terrain across the Kingdom.

Organisers said the Dakar Rally is expected to return to Saudi Arabia in 2028 for its 50th edition.
