AI Awareness Among Egyptians Triples to 65% in 2026

Awareness of artificial intelligence applications among Egyptians rose to 65% in 2026, up from 22% in 2023, according to a poll by the Cabinet Information and Decision Support Centre conducted from July 15th to 28th.

Among respondents who had heard of AI applications, ChatGPT was the most-used platform at 26.3%, followed by Gemini at 10.9%, Meta applications at 2.9% and other tools at 2.2%. Work was the leading reason for using AI, cited by 51.7% of users, followed by personal matters at 38.3% and study at 32.3%.

Views of AI-generated answers were broadly positive, with 51.4% rating them “acceptable” and 42.5% “excellent”. Privacy remained a major concern, however, with 55% of users worried about sharing personal data or information through AI applications.

Employment was another prominent concern. Around 56% of respondents believed greater reliance on AI would eliminate many jobs, while 18% disagreed and 26% did not express an opinion. Clerical and administrative roles were the most commonly cited as vulnerable, followed by factory and manual work, teaching, accounting, graphic design, customer service, programming and medicine.

Looking ahead, 40.9% of respondents expected AI applications to be relied upon completely in future decision-making, while 48.8% believed AI could pose a future danger. Among those concerned about risks, reduced independent thinking, fabricated content and misuse of AI tools were the most frequently cited issues.

The findings come as AI adoption expands across education and public services, alongside the second National AI Strategy for 2025 to 2030. Recent initiatives include the BelMasry AI platform, free 12-month Gemini access for Egyptian university students, and plans to introduce programming and AI courses in technical schools from the 2026/27 academic year.
