Cairo Offers Free Tree Planting Service for Residents
Residents who purchase trees can have them planted free of charge by specialist teams under new guidelines for pavements and properties.
The General Authority for Cleanliness and Beautification of Cairo will provide free tree planting for residents who purchase trees, with specialist teams handling the planting and initial care.
Residents can request the service through the authority’s hotline or by contacting garden department managers and neighbourhood supervisors in their district.
Cairo’s executive apparatus has also introduced guidelines for planting trees outside homes and commercial properties. The rules require a distance of four to five metres between trees and call for approved species that consume relatively little water while providing sufficient shade.
Planting must also be carried out in a way that does not obstruct traffic or interfere with underground or roadside infrastructure. Specialist teams will oversee placement and planting to ensure the requirements are followed.
According to Governor of Cairo Ibrahim Saber, the authority will carry out the planting at no charge once residents have purchased the trees. The measures are intended to standardise planting on pavements and in front of properties while improving tree survival and avoiding conflicts with surrounding infrastructure.
