Driverless Taxis Begin Operating in Dubai Neighbourhoods
Autonomous taxis are now available on selected streets in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim through Uber and Apollo Go.
Driverless taxis have begun operating on selected streets across Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim, with rides available through the Uber and Apollo Go applications. According to the Roads and Transport Authority, the service introduces fully autonomous ride experiences within designated residential areas, marking one of the first deployments of self-driving taxis in Dubai neighbourhoods.
The authority stated that the rollout forms part of broader plans focused on sustainable and integrated urban mobility while incorporating advanced autonomous vehicle systems into the city’s transport network. Passengers can currently request autonomous rides within selected operational zones in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim using the two ride-hailing platforms.
The initiative falls under Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which targets converting 25% of transportation trips across Dubai into smart and driverless journeys by 2030.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority, the current phase remains limited to specific streets within the two neighbourhoods as authorities continue expanding autonomous mobility infrastructure across the city.
