Dubai Launches Region's First AI Model to Detect Deepfake Videos

The Dubai Electronic Security Centre plans to launch an artificial intelligence model for detecting deepfake videos by the end of 2026.

Named SARAAB, the system currently records a 91% accuracy rate and analyses videos from beginning to end rather than checking selected frames. It uses heat maps to highlight facial areas identified as potentially manipulated.

SARAAB will be released through Hugging Face, an open-source AI platform where users can access and modify model code. According to the centre, it is the first model of its kind developed by a government entity in the Arab region.

The model was presented at GISEC Global, running from September 16th to 18th at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City.

The centre also launched the Dubai Cyber Skills Framework and introduced the ISR Auditor Certification Programme, initiatives intended to standardise cybersecurity skills development and auditing practices.
