Dubai Municipality to Plant 3.5 Million Trees By 2040
Dubai Municipality’s 2040 roadmap targets 11 square metres of green space per person and 95 million annual park visits.
Dubai Municipality plans to plant around 3.5 million trees and expand green spaces across the emirate to 187 square kilometres by 2040, as part of a wider urban development roadmap focused on public space, infrastructure and city management.
The municipality is also targeting 11 square metres of green space per capita and 95 million annual visits to parks and recreational facilities. The goals were presented by Director General Marwan bin Ghalita during a session at the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Forum.
Targets for the 2040 roadmap include inspecting more than 577,000 food consignments annually, ensuring 40% of new buildings adopt modern and smart construction technologies by 2033 and diverting 100% of waste away from landfills. Digital twins and artificial intelligence are also expected to play a larger role in planning and city management.
The AED 30 billion Tasreef project is designed to increase rainwater drainage capacity by 700%, with the system expected to handle more than 20 million cubic metres per day once complete.
