Dust Storms Forecast Across Greater Cairo on May 17th & 18th

Dust-laden winds are expected to affect several regions across Egypt on May 17th and 18th, with officials warning of deteriorating air quality and reduced visibility in exposed areas.

According to the Ministry of Local Development and Environment, the country’s air pollution early warning system recorded forecasts indicating strong winds carrying sand and dust across parts of Upper Egypt, the Western Desert, and exposed areas of Greater Cairo, particularly along desert roads and open spaces.

Minister of Local Development Manal Awad stated that reports issued in coordination with the Egyptian Meteorological Authority indicate that weather conditions may lead to intermittent declines in air quality and visibility, especially during evening and nighttime hours. She added that conditions are expected to gradually improve beginning Monday evening.

The ministry advised elderly individuals and people suffering from respiratory illnesses or sinus conditions to avoid outdoor activities during periods of elevated dust levels and strong winds.
