An Egyptian man detained after crossing the border into Israel had been missing from his home since July and was experiencing psychological instability, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry said Egyptian authorities were following reports of the crossing and coordinating with the relevant authorities to take the necessary steps to return the man to Egypt. It did not identify him or provide further details about when he went missing or his condition.
The Israeli military said surveillance systems detected an Egyptian civilian crossing the border fence near Nitzana overnight. Troops were sent to the area, where the man was detained and transferred to security forces for questioning.
